Basically for the whole game your chasing this guy. Gameplay: The gameplay was pretty lame, and the story sucked to. I mean who wants to control a cursor with a controller? That is meant for the work of a mouse. Overall: This game is not meant for console. Real Myst seemed ok and all, but Exile is nicer. Suggestions: I'd like further Myst games for Xbox please. I wasn't really a big fan of Riven, but I think I'm hooked again, thanks to Exile. The surround sound is nice, and fits well with the rest of the engine improvements. Sound: The sound is great, as it always has been with this series. I could tell that it was done in 3D Studio MAX though, even before I watched the bonus content on the disc. Graphics: Visually, it's better than the first two games, and does look great. I really appreciate a game like this, from time to time. Gameplay: Gameplay, while it might seem outdated to some, is familiar, yet improved. It's nice to have more of this sort of game, especially on Xbox for people who don't like PC gaming. I don't play many games, but I've always loved this series, so I really want to get this working.Overall: Cool game, in my opinion. The moving video was not always opaque, and I could see triangles of the background image. I tried Exile with software acceleration selected (both before and after installing DirectX), and the video ran smoothly, but there were problems with triangles of graphics fluttering and appearing and disappearing. Then it went back to a full screen of Windows, running in the Parallels VM.

I tried running Exile with DirectX and it did the same as earlier (Well, I think it included one more step): Screen went black, then the HDTV I'm using as a monitor switched from 16x9 mode to 3x4, which it does when Riven runs. So I went to Microsoft to install DirectX and got the web installer for DirectX 9.x, downloaded it, and installed it.

I went back and tried to install it from the Exile CD, but could not, since it thought XP was Win NT (which I understand, so that's not an issue). So I did some searching and found a lot that convinced me people are using Direct X on Parallels. I picked DirectX and the program started, the screen went black (Parallels was in full screen mode), and then I was back to my Windows screen - without any warning messages. I installed Exile, started it up, and it gave me a choice of using DirectX or using software for video acceleration. When I installed Exile, I did not try to install DirectX, since I had heard (apparently years ago, according to what I found while searching) that Parallels had issues with DirectX, so I should count on Parallels Tools to handle it. Game Version: Myst III: Exile, version 1.0 I'm using the following configuration on a MacMiniĭirect X Version: 9.x (I'm not sure how to get the actual version number.)
